Monroe County drops to an orange advisory level on the state COVID-19 map with only 43 cases per 100,000 people. However, the county’s two-week metric score is now at the lower yellow level.
“Remember that the advisory map will not move to yellow because of that two-week requirement before those change colors,” county health administrator Penny Caudill said. “But also remember the sharp declines of our current situation make that measure less relevant than it was when we had lots of roller coaster numbers.”
Monroe County reported nine new COVID-19 cases Wednesday, raising its total to 27,400 since the pandemic began. No new deaths were reported.
The county’s seven-day positivity rate is now 5 percent.

In District 8, which includes Monroe, Brown, and Bartholomew counties, hospitalizations remained steady at 37 COVID-19 patients.
“Overall trends for hospitalizations, asymptomatic testing, water sampling data all continue to indicate declines,” Caudill said. “Our rolling daily average of cases is now around 20 and the last time we saw that number was October.”
State
The state confirmed 452 new COVID-19 cases Wednesday. In total, 1,682,667 Hoosiers have tested positive since the pandemic began.
The state reported 47 new deaths, which occurred Dec. 18-Mar. 1. These additions push the state to 22,037 total deaths.

The state’s seven-day positivity rate is now 5.5 percent.
Across Indiana, 751 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, down from 792 hospitalizations Tuesday.
For the week of Feb. 14, 100 percent of reported COVID-19 cases in Indiana were the Omicron variant.
