Local and state COVID-19 hospitalizations continue to drop

Monroe County

Monroe County reported 13 new  COVID-19 cases Thursday and nine Wednesday. The new cases were reported to the state between Feb. 27 and March 2. In total, 27,413 county residents have tested positive since the pandemic began. 

No new deaths were reported. The county’s seven-day positivity rate is now 4.6 percent, down from 5 percent Wednesday. 

In District 8, which includes Monroe, Brown, and Bartholomew counties, 21 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, down from 37 Tuesday and Wednesday. The last time hospitalizations were that low was July 21.

State  

The state confirmed 484 new COVID-19 cases, which were reported to the IDOH between Aug. 4 and March 2. In total, 1,683,176 Hoosiers have tested positive since the pandemic began.  

The state reported 34 additional deaths, bringing the total to 22,071. The state’s seven-day positivity rate is now 5.2 percent, down from 5.5 percent Wednesday. Through mid-January, the seven-day rate was consistently between 28 and 30 percent. 

Across Indiana, 677 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized. This is down from 751 hospitalizations Wednesday. Thursday’s hospital census is the lowest since July 24, when it was at 641.
