The City of Bloomington is looking to a third-party for sustainable design recommendations as the former hospital site redevelopment moves forward.
Bloomington’s redevelopment commission approved an agreement Monday worth $12,482 for a sustainability consultant for the Hopewell development.
Bloomington economic and sustainable development director Alex Crowley said the contract with Indianapolis-based, sustainable design company, Guidon, serves three main functions.
“The first is to do some advanced due diligence work in terms of understanding how other communities have entered this phase,” Crowley said.
The second is a two-hour workshop with pertinent city departments. One objective of the workshop is educating staff on the financial impacts of sustainable development.
The company will also provide recommendations as the city moves into the development bidding process.
“What kinds of requirements would we want to bake into things like [requests for quotes] or [requests for proposals] that would allow us to pursue and achieve a more sustainable development process than we might otherwise see if we just left it out to the market to decide?” Crowley said.
