State politicians express support for grad union in letter to IU president

Indiana State Senator Shelli Yoder and State Representative Matt Pierce wrote a letter Monday in support of unionization efforts by the graduate student workers of Indiana University.

The letter, addressed to President Pamela Whitten, urged the university administration to meet with the grad workers coalition.

With support from about 1,600 graduate workers, the coalition asked the university to oversee a formal union election in February. The university rejected its request.

The coalition will be holding a vote Sunday online and at the Monroe County Public Library auditorium to authorize a strike.
