No arrests have been made in a pair of shootings in downtown Bloomington early Saturday morning, but Bloomington Police said Monday they had found no connection between the two shootings.
Police were called to the Kalao Nightclub on North Walnut Street shortly after 1 a.m. Saturday and determined multiple shots had been fired inside. Three victims were found in the street outside the club.
Police said surveillance video from inside the club showed the suspect and a 41-year-old victim in an altercation. The video then shows the suspect pulled out a handgun and fired “multiple times in the very crowded bar area,” according to a news release. A 26-year-old and 22-year-old were also struck. The 22-year-old was treated and released, but the 41-year-old and 26-year-old victims remain hospitalized in stable condition.
About 20 minutes after responding to the shooting at Kalao, police received a call of another shooting victim in a parking lot near the intersection of Sixth Street and Lincoln Street. Police found a 26-year-old man in the front seat of a car with a gunshot wound to his abdomen.
The man was transported to IU Health Bloomington, where he underwent surgery and is in critical condition.
Police said they continue to look for witnesses to the second shooting and are trying to view surveillance footage from the area.
Bloomington police said there was no connection between the two men arrested on campus on felony gun charges Saturday morning and the downtown shootings.
