CVS imposes, then removes, Plan B purchase limit

On Tuesday, CVS announced it was removing purchase limits on Plan B that it had imposed the day before.

Demand for the morning-after pill spiked last Thursday after the Supreme Court ruled to overturn Roe v. Wade. Now, CVS says demand has returned to normal and customer restrictions have been lifted.

The pharmacy chain had imposed a three-per-customer limit on Plan B purchases, joining other retailers such as Amazon and Walmart. In a statement to the press, CVS said the move was to ensure, “equitable access and consistent supply on store shelves.”

Unlike abortion pills, Plan B is considered an emergency contraceptive. The medication prevents eggs from being fertilized before a pregnancy can occur.

States that have otherwise moved to outlaw abortion still allow its sale. Pills expire after four years, so some medical experts have dissuaded consumers from stockpiling large quantities.
