Public comment for the Mid-States Corridor road project’s first tier of study closed this summer. The road will link highways in southern Indiana to promote economic growth in a twelve-county region.
A draft environmental impact statement, which identified a preferred route for the road, was released before public comment periods in April. Ed Green is a spokesperson for the project.
"That's what we were seeking comment on," he said. "What we use those comments for is to adjust recommendations in the draft environmental impact statement.”

Green said the state and stakeholders will look at public feedback and adjust recommendations in the impact statement’s draft– and a record of decision should come from that early next year. Depending on what the record of decision is, a tier 2 study could be next.
"A lot of those would be based on additional looks at the geography, the specific impacts, things like that.”
He said the state hasn’t yet committed funding for tier two studies as they are waiting on results from tier 1 to determine the appropriateness of the corridor. Tier two studies could take another couple years.
Green said more than 500 people attended each of the two public hearings held, and more than 1,000 comments were received through letters, website submissions, or written feedback at meetings.
