Former Monroe County Circuit Court Judge Marc Kellams died Friday in a car crash in Indianapolis, according to the Indiana State Police.

The four-car crash occurred at about 4:30 p.m., a state police official said. Kellams was driving southbound on I-465 near I-70 in an SUV.

The official said alcohol and drugs were not involved in the crash.

Kellams, 73, served at the circuit court for 38 years. He was also a Catholic deacon through the Archdiocese of Indianapolis and ministered at Bloomington’s St. Charles Borromeo Church.

Kellams earned his undergraduate and law degrees from Indiana University. He was an instructor teaching trial advocacy at the Maurer School of Law since 1983.

Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Judge Marc Kellams ‘78, who passed away yesterday in Indianapolis. Monroe County offices will fly their flags at half-mast in memory of Kellams, according to the county Board of Commissioners’ Facebook page.
