A Batchelor Middle School student was arrested Tuesday morning for bringing a gun on a school bus, according to a Monroe County Community School Corporation press release.

MCCSC received a tip about an armed student on a bus and detained the student before the student could enter the school. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department arrested the student, who faces a one-year expulsion.

The student rode Bus Route 141 to Bloomington High School South before transferring to Bus Route 155 to Batchelor. Batchelor principal Eric Gilpin sent a letter to all families with children attending the school, and administrators at Batchelor and Bloomington South called the families of students who ride the two bus lines.

The incident remains under investigation.

MCCSC Director of School Safety Chris Finley thanked the tip provider. Safety tips can be shared with the school corporation at (812) 330-2494.
