Former President Donald Trump endorsed Republican Erin Houchin for Indiana’s 9 th Congressional District. Houchin’s campaign announced the endorsement Thursday.

Houchin is from Salem and served as a state senator for District 47 from 2014 to February 2022, when she resigned to focus on her campaign.

“I am grateful to have President Trump’s support in our campaign,” Houchin said in a news release. “I look forward to keeping Indiana’s 9 th District red, taking back the House, and making our country strong, prosperous, and respected again.”

Houchin said she opposes abortion and is pro-second amendment. She also said there were “irregularities” in the 2020 election, including governors and secretaries of state making “unconstitutional” changes to election law during the pandemic.

“But we did have that election certified,” Houchin said in a WTIU interview in October. “I don't think that we should re-litigate the past. We should just make sure that the elections moving forward that the public has confidence and faith that they are the outcome that is established.”

As a state senator, Houchin introduced legislation resulting in the Next Level Connections Grant Program, which saw the state invest $270 million into broadband infrastructure.
