With three hours left to vote in the 2022 midterm, 16,962 people had come out to vote on election day in Monroe County.
Joan Ellis worked polls Tuesday at Summit Elementary and says it’s been a steady turnout all day.

“There's so much negativity in the US about elections that I thought instead of just griping or complaining, I'm gonna go work the polls.”
Ellis said working the polls has been a nonpartisan and positive experience. The day started slow but got busier as it went on.

Makaba Pierson came out to vote at Summit Elementary and she wants politicians to make more of an effort to connect with voters.
“A lot of us don't know the people we're voting for, only from fliers or mail or text messages on our phone," she said. "So it will be nice for us to come in close contact with the people we're voting for.”
She said she didn’t have a specific ballot issue in mind, but it’s important to her to come out and exercise her right.
The Monroe County clerk said in regular updates Tuesday that 14,064 people voted early in the election.
