The Monroe County Community School Corporation will purchase the Herald-Times building, 1900 S. Walnut St., for $2,977,500.

Located near the MCCSC administrative building, technology center, transportation lot and Bloomington High School South, the three-story limestone building will become a family welcome center, community meeting and building services space.

MCCSC said the property was not purchased with funds from the referendum

The Herald-Times has occupied the 68,000 square foot site since 1961.

The building was listed for sale earlier this fall by BellCornerstone, a New York real estate firm. The purchase price was set as the average of two real-estate appraisals obtained by the Board – the maximum price allowable for a school district in the state. According to BellCornerstone, the transaction has not yet been closed.
