Indiana quarterback Connor Bazelak throws against Illinois in the season opener.
Indiana quarterback Connor Bazelak throws against Illinois in the season opener.

Connor Bazelak, who started the first eight games this season, became the third Indiana quarterback to enter the transfer portal.

Bazelak’s decision Tuesday comes a day after Grant Gremel announced he was entering the portal. Jack Tuttle, who lost a battle with Bazelak for the starting job heading into the season, entered the portal last month.

Bazelak transferred to Indiana after starting for two years at Missouri. He appeared in 10 games in his lone season for the Hoosiers, completing 235 of 426 passes for 2,312 yards. He threw 13 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

He thanked head coach Tom Allen and offensive coordinator Walt Bell in a statement on Twitter.

“To my teammates, thank you for some great memories,” Bazelak wrote. “We competed well against the best competition in college football – never forget that. I will miss you!”

After starting the first eight games, Bazelak sat out the loss to Penn State. He started the following week against Ohio State, but was replaced by Dexter Williams, who started the final two games of the season.

Williams is expected to be the starter next season, but he suffered a leg injury in the season finale against Purdue. The only other quarterbacks on the roster are freshman Brendan Sorsby and junior Will Jontz.
