Local real estate agent Ryne Shadday (D) is running for one of three at-large seats on the Bloomington City Council.

Shadday serves on various committees and councils, including the human rights and traffic commissions for the City of Bloomington, and says his interest in public service dates back to his adolescence.

“My grandfather was a city councilor in my hometown, and I essentially grew up within city hall shadowing him,” Shadday said. “I’ve been in Bloomington nearly 20 years and love this community, as my grandfather did his.”

Shadday is campaigning on the promises of promoting transparency between city and county governments; economic growth and vitality with a focus on sustainability; long-term plans for affordable housing; and a commitment to housing those experiencing homelessness.

“I want to bring some of my ideas, a community-wide civic pride day or week, a focus on ensuring Bloomington is the welcoming place it claims to be,” Shadday said.

Housing, Shadday said, is the most important issue this election cycle.

“These topics have been on the minds of Bloomingtonians for a while, but the perception in our community is that they have been put on the backburner,” he said.

Beyond his day job as an agent for Trueblood Real Estate, Shadday is also secretary of the Board of Directors for the IU LGBTQ+ Alumni Association; director of the Bloomington Board of Realtors Board of Directors; and representative for the Bloomington Board of Realtors on the Owen County Economic Development Corporation.
