Snow days a thing of the past due to eLearning

Monroe County Community School Corporation conducted classes online Wednesday because of the inclement weather.

Students are using their school-provided iPads to do real-time eLearning with their teachers, but not all parents are happy about the disappearance of snow days.

Some parents are still making sure their kids get a chance to enjoy the outdoors today. Stephanie Lotven took her two daughters to Bryan Park to enjoy the snow day with some sledding.

Her oldest daughter used her P.E. and lunch time to hit the hills with her sister before having to go back inside to join her math class.

Lotven says that the new lack of snow days since the pandemic has been disappointing, and that “they could’ve probably really used a regular show day today instead of some iPad time.”

Other residents expressed their reactions by commenting on MCCSC’s Facebook post announcing the school closure. Chels Ray wrote, “Sorry, no e-learning in my house. Snow days will be used as snow days.”

Not all school programs have moved online for the day, however. MCCSC is still offering take-home school lunch and breakfast for some students at four locations across the district.
