The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office has made an arrest in the Jan. 23 shooting of a Smithville man.
Edward Deckard, 57, was arrested Monday. He allegedly shot a man twice when the man caught Deckard and another man tampering with his pickup in his driveway.
The second man, Gary “Kevin” Robertson, 51, was arrested on the day of the shooting using information from a sheriff’s office drone, according to a news release. The office said he had methamphetamine in his possession at the time of his arrest.
During an interview with Deckard, the sheriff’s office presented him cell phone evidence, which it said “confirmed his involvement” in the shooting.
Deckard then took detectives to a brush pile off rural Strain Ridge Road where they found a loaded 12-gauge shotgun.
Deckard is facing charges of attempted murder, robbery, and criminal recklessness. Robertson was booked for robbery and criminal recklessness.
