Morgan County residents displaced by tornadoes can apply for a hotel voucher

South Central Community Action Program's Morgan County office is taking applications for the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority.

People in Morgan County who’ve been displaced by last week’s storms and tornadoes can apply for a 30-day hotel voucher at the South Central Community Action Program office in Morgan County.

Areas near Martinsville were among those affected by tornadoes and storms last weekend. Eddy Riou with SCCAP said around a dozen people have filled out a form requesting a voucher.

“Without that safety net that some of us enjoy, they're potentially made homeless, or they'll have to go through a period of homelessness," Rious said. "That's detrimental to their their health and mental health. And for those who have children, it makes it more difficult for for them to deal with their everyday lives.

The vouchers are provided by Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority, which reviews the applications collected by SCCAP in Morgan County.

Riou said turn around for approval of an application is around 48 hours.

“The affidavit is pretty simple. It's not asking for a ton of information. They're attesting to the disaster that affected their lives. And then the determination will be made by the Indiana Housing Committee Development Authority.”

People who have been displaced can fill out a voucher request at 159 West Morgan Street in Martinsville, call SCCAP’s office at 765-342-1518 , or visit the South Central Communty Action Program's website.

Riou also recommended people contact the Red Cross for assistance.
