Two people are in custody in connection with a shooting Tuesday night at a Columbus park that left four people wounded.

According to a Columbus Police Department statement, at around 7:40 p.m., police responded to a report of shots fired at the Lincoln Park basketball court near Hamilton Center on the city’s north side.

There, they found two adults and two juveniles with gunshot wounds and, along with firefighters and emergency medical service personnel, administered medical care. Three of the wounded were transported to Indianapolis-area hospitals and the fourth received treatment at Columbus Regional Hospital.

Police said as a result of an investigation at the scene, they “began looking for a vehicle and its occupants who were suspects in the shooting.”

Later Tuesday night, officers from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office stopped a vehicle believed to be associated with the incident and took 18-year-old Alexander Parker of Columbus into custody.

After receiving further information about a second suspect in the shooting, the Columbus Police Department’s SWAT team converged on a house in the 3400 block of Old Field Lane, where they took 18-year-old Edmarius Oats of Columbus into custody.

Parker and Oats were taken to the Bartholomew County Jail, where they remain in custody. Both were charged with aggravated battery and criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon. Parker was also charged with assisting a criminal.

Police said additional charges are possible as the investigation continues.
