Indiana State Rep. Jim Lucas was arrested for driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident early Wednesday morning in Seymour.

According to state police, Lucas (R-District 69) allegedly crashed his car on I-65 north of Seymour, then drove off. The vehicle was located by Seymour police shortly after the crash, and Lucas was found nearby and arrested.

Lucas was booked into the Jackson County Jail at 3:46 a.m. and released four hours later on a $750 bond.

He was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated-endangerment, leaving the scene of a crash with property damage and operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

The 58-year-old Lucas, who is from Seymour, has been a state representative since 2012.

His time in office has been filled with controversy for comments about rape, domestic violence and slavery. He called the 2022 school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, a false flag and quoted Nazi propagandist Joseph Goebbels in a Facebook post.
