Indiana State Police are investigating an office-involved shooting in Greene County Wednesday that left one man dead.

According to an ISP release, deputies from the Greene County Sheriff’s Department and Monroe County Sheriff’s Department were attempting to locate the suspect in an overnight Tuesday shooting in Bloomington.

At about 10 a.m., deputies located the suspect’s vehicle near a tent off South Old Clifty Road, just south of I-69 in eastern Greene County. Upon exiting their vehicles, deputies reported a gunshot from the tent and took cover.

A Greene County deputy fired his service rifle at the tent. Bloomington Police Department SWAT team was then activated, and upon entering the tent, they found a deceased male, who has yet to be identified.

“All deputies involved in this incident have been placed on administrative leave, which is customary in officer-involved shootings,” according to the release.

The incident began in the early hours Wednesday when a man called the Monroe County Sheriff dispatch to report that his 31-year-old daughter had been shot in the leg by her ex-boyfriend Tuesday evening at her Eagle Pointe residence.

Armed with a rifle and handgun, the suspect drove the woman to the tent on South Old Clifty Road.

According to a Monroe County Sheriff’s Department release, “Once there, the victim briefly lost consciousness, waking up around 1 a.m., and the suspect drove the victim back to her residence in Monroe County.”

She then drove to her parents for help, and law enforcement was called.

The woman was taken to IU Health Bloomington with a non-threatening injury.
