The sale of Cook Medical’s reproductive health division to CooperCompanies Inc. has been terminated.
The California-based medical device company backed out of its $875 million acquisition, according to the Federal Trade Commission.
“The only thing I can share is that I can confirm that it was the deal was terminated,” said Cook Medical Public Relations Manager Marsha Lovejoy.
Cooper Companies Investor Relations & Risk Management Analyst Alyssa Gee replied, "no comment."
The sale was announced in February 2022.
The FTC released a statement supporting the cancellation, saying it “ensures that critical reproductive health markets remain competitive.”
Cook Medical’s reproductive product line includes tools for incubation, embryo transfer, genetic testing and gynecologic surgery. The company developed the first needle used specifically for in vitro fertilization.
Cook Medical President Pete Yonkman told WFIU News this spring that the company was selling product lines to companies it believed were a better fit.
Cook laid off 500 employees in May, including 75 in Monroe County where its headquarters is based.
Cook Medical still belongs to the Cook family. CEO Carl Cook lives in Bloomington.
