Muncie police have announced an arrest in a  weekend shooting that killed one person and injured 18.

In a release, the department says 36-year-old John Vance has “been taken into custody as a suspect.”  He has been charged preliminarily with “several felonies,” but those are not named in statements from the police department or the Muncie mayor’s office.

The early Sunday morning shooting came at a party with hundreds of people.  Thirty-year-old Joseph Bonner was killed.  Seventeen people were injured with gunshots and one person was hit by a car.  Police say some of the gunshot victims were teenagers.

At a  Monday press conference, Muncie police would not say how many people were shooting, if anyone was specifically targeted, or how many guns or shell casings were recovered.

According to court records, Vance has a criminal history and has been convicted of several felonies, including unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon.
