The City of Bloomington’s Safe and Civil City Director Shatoyia Moss has been selected to participate in the Obama Foundation’s Leaders USA 2023 program.

Moss is among the first cohort of 100 leaders selected to the six-month virtual program, which supports and connects emerging leaders between the ages of 24 and 45 years old from 37 states.

“Participants are values-driven leaders from every corner of the nation who are ready to expand their impact and help strengthen our national culture of democracy,” the foundation’s website reads.

Moss and other participants will hone their leadership skills through various activities. They'll later have the opportunity to meet with former President Barack Obama and have one-on-one conversations with mentors in the foundation's global network.

Moss was selected for her work in community engagement and collaboration. As the safe and civil city director, she serves as a liaison to the city’s Commission on the Status of Black Males and Commission on the Status of Children and Youth, according to the city.

She also serves as the city’s representative for the Bloomington Sister Cities Committee.

She has also served as one of two vice presidents, webmaster, scholarship chair and youth initiatives chair for Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
