Second person dies swimming at Lake Monroe

The body of a Bloomington man was recovered from Lake Monroe Sunday, the second drowning of the weekend at the lake. Six people have drowned at Lake Monroe this year, according to Indiana DNR conservation officer David Moss.

Emergency personnel arrived at the Moore’s Creek area around 2 p.m. Sunday. According to witnesses, Bloomington resident Paul Bosler jumped off a boat to swim and did not resurface.

He was quickly found by the Monroe County Dive Team and taken to IU Health Bloomington Hospital, but died there from his injuries, according to a statement from the Indiana Dept. of Natural Resources.

Life jackets were not used during the incident. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department, Indiana University Health Ambulance and the Monroe County Fire Department also assisted the search.
