Last week’s storms that rocked portions of southern Indiana are now confirmed to have included six tornadoes, according to the National Weather Service office in Louisville. In an update on its website, the NWS said overnight severe storms on Monday, Aug. 7 produced “hail, damaging winds, and tornadoes.”

The areas of Haysville, French Lick, Salem, and north and east Paoli were all hit by EF-1 tornadoes. South Paoli was hit by a category EF-0 tornado.

One long track of tornadoes traveled nearly 26 miles through Dubois and Orange counties, from Haysville to Paoli, breaking the record for the longest known tornado track for the month of August within the NWS Louisville warning area.

The previous record was on Aug. 14, 2002, when an F1 tornado in Jefferson County, Ind., tracked four miles long.
