State police investigate Ripley County inmate death

A woman was found unresponsive in her cell at Ripley County jail Thursday. The 57-year-old inmate arrived at the jail after being arrested on a Ripley County warrant in a different Indiana county, but was found unresponsive shortly after.

The woman was given medical care by staff and taken to Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville where she was pronounced dead.

Indiana State Police are investigating the death. No foul play is suspected; toxicology and autopsy results are pending.
