The Bloomington Fire Department is continuing its annual Heroes Helping Hoosiers food drive to minimize food insecurity during the holidays.

Deputy Chief of the Bloomington Fire Department Max Litwin said this is the third year the department has done this.

“We're always looking for ways that we can do more than just firefighting and EMS to contribute towards potential needs that people might need help with,” Litwin said. “And we just dropped the distribution boxes for people to donate to those in the community that need them.”

The boxes can be found at all five fire stations across Bloomington:

  • 226 S. College Ave.
  • 209 S. Fairfield Drive
  • 810 N. Woodlawn Ave.
  • 2201 E. Third St.
  • 1987 S. Henderson St.

Monroe County’s food insecurity is higher than both the state and national average at 16 percent. Hoosiers can help by bringing non-perishable food items to the donation boxes. Litwin said boxed foods, canned soups and cooking ingredients are ideal donations.
