Indiana State Police are investigating the death of a female inmate found dead at the Orange County Jail on Saturday.

According to an ISP release, jail officers delivering breakfast at around 5 a.m. Saturday found 54-year-old Jeanne Ross of Mooresville unresponsive in her cell.

“Jail officers immediately began providing medical assistance and requested EMS respond to assist,” according to the release. Attempts to revive Ross were unsuccessful, and she was pronounced dead at the scene by the Orange County Coroner’s Office.

An autopsy was conducted Sunday morning and toxicology results are pending.

Ross had been taken from the Hendricks County Jail to the Orange County Jail on Dec. 26 on a warrant for failure to appear, according to the release.

The investigation is ongoing.
