Southwest library closing for freeze damage repairs

MCPL will open its Southwest branch Friday, June 9th from 2-7 p.m.
MCPL will open its Southwest branch Friday, June 9th from 2-7 p.m.

The Southwest Branch of the Monroe County Public Library is now closed for repairs. According to an update on the website, one of the exhaust vents froze overnight and flooded a third of the library. No collections were damaged.

The program lobby, program room, teen space, parts of the children's space and a small section of the adult print area were impacted. Library officials estimate the repairs will take three to four weeks.

The Southwest branch opened last year. It is the most recent addition to the Monroe County Public Library system.

Patrons will still be able to pick up holds but must request a transfer of the hold to one of the other branches for pickup. This can be done on the library website or over the phone. Southwest branch programs will be rescheduled to other branches as well.
