Brianne Gregory is Monroe County’s new auditor.
Gregory was selected during an uncontested Democratic party vacancy caucus Saturday. She will now run as the incumbent auditor in the May primary.
Gregory, the county’s former financial director, assumes the title previously held by Catherine Smith, now the county treasurer. Gregory served under Smith as the county financial director.
The auditor’s seat became vacant when Smith was selected as the new county treasurer in January. The previous treasurer, Jessica McClellan, resigned to serve as Bloomington’s city controller.

The day before the caucus, county employees did not immediately receive their direct deposits. They received them later in the day, according to Smith.
She cited recent personnel changes in the auditor’s and treasurer’s offices as the reason for the delay.
The local Democratic Party will hold a separate caucus for the vacant District 5 seat on the Bloomington City Council. Former District 5 representative Shruti Rana resigned Feb. 7 to move to Missouri.

The three candidates for District 5 are Jenny Stevens, Rana’s former political opponent in the District 5 race; Jason Moore, the former Bloomington fire chief; and Courtney Daily, the former chapter lead of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America.
The caucus will be held at 1 p.m. March 2 at Bloomington City Hall, 401 N. Morton St.
It will be preceded by a candidate forum at 2 p.m. Feb. 24 at the Monroe County Public Library, 303 E. Kirkwood Ave.
