In the same building for 44 years, Mary M's Walnut House Flowers and Gifts continues to serve customers with flowers and antiques.

The most romantic day of the year brings hundreds of orders for the shop. Its employees have been prepping since Christmas for the Valentine’s Day rush.

April Stidam, a part-time employee, is busy filling orders and ringing up customers. She said the shop received its holiday shipment last week.

“We ordered 9000 roses for the week, and we've gone through most of those,” Stidam said.

About 20 employees are working the holiday shift to cut flowers, prep vases and deliver orders.

“Last night, I prepped 155 orders to go out this morning,” Stidam said.

The family-owned business continues to create a lasting impact on the community.

“My boss Jamie is the granddaughter of Mary, who opened the store,” Stidam said. “We have been here in this one spot for the entire 44 years.”

Valentine’s Day is the second busiest day of the year for the shop.

“We actually do more orders for Mother's Day, but Valentine's Day seems to be more hectic,” Stidam said. “It's a lot more people who decide last minute, or maybe their plan didn't work out so they're trying to salvage it.”

The shop is open an extra two hours, until 7 p.m. Wednesday for last-minute flower orders.
