Indiana’s Mackenzie Mgbako was selected to the Big Ten’s All-Freshman Team and named the league’s co-Freshman of the Year for men’s basketball on Tuesday.
Mgbako averaged 12.2 points per game, highest among the Big Ten’s freshmen. He led Indiana with 49 made 3-pointers and added 4.0 rebounds per game.
Sophomore center Kel-el Ware was named to the All-Big Ten Second Team by the league’s media and third team by the coaches. Ware, a transfer from Oregon, averaged a team-best 16.1 points and 9.8 rebounds per game for the Hoosiers. He was also named to the conference’s All-Defensive Team.
Sophomore forward Malik Reneau was named honorable mention by both the media and the coaches. He averaged 15.7 points and 5.9 rebounds for the Hoosiers, who finished the regular season 18-13 overall and 10-10 in the Big Ten.
Purdue center Zach Edey was named the Big Ten’s Player of the Year for the second straight season.
Indiana earned the sixth seed for the Big Ten tournament and will open play Thursday night against the winner of Wednesday’s opening round game between Michigan and Penn State.
