Tim Garl, IU men’s basketball trainer for 44 years, will not be retained by new coach Darion DeVries. Monday was his last day with the university.

The top-seeded Gamecocks beat the Hoosiers 64-53 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament Sunday in Columbia, S.C.

DeVries led West Virginia to a 19-13 record this season, but, like Indiana, his team was one of the first four left out of the NCAA Tournament.

The 49-year-old DeVries succeeds Mike Woodson, who announced his retirement after four seasons as head coach early last month.

Junior guard Yarden Garzon scored 18 points and junior guard Shay Ciezki had 17 points to lead the Hoosiers to their first ever win over the Ducks.

In his three-plus seasons at Indiana, Mike Woodson has a 77-49 record overall and 36-36 in the Big Ten.

Chicago, Detroit and Las Vegas also named as host sites for the tournaments over the next four years.

Mackenzie Holmes was selected with the 26th pick in the WNBA draft by the Seattle Storm in April, but missed this season after having surgery on her knee.

Purdue’s Zach Edey and Iowa’s Caitlin Clark were named the Big Ten Conference Athletes of the Year for the second straight year, the league announced Tuesday.

Purdue will be just one of three conference opponents Indiana will play twice in 2024-25 season.
