Indianapolis will host two of the next four Big Ten men’s and women’s basketball tournaments, the conference announced Wednesday.
And with the conference expanding to 18 teams this year, including four schools on the west coast, the Big Ten awarded the 2027 men’s tournament and the 2028 women’s tournament to Las Vegas.
Chicago will host the 2026 women’s tournament, and Detroit gets the 2028 men’s tournament.
“We look forward to partnering with the cities of Chicago, Detroit, Indianapolis, and Las Vegas as they host the Big Ten Basketball Tournaments from 2025-28,” Big Ten Commissioner Tony Petitti said in a press release. “Each city will be an exciting postseason opportunity for our student-athletes, coaches, and fans, both locally and from across the country.”
This year will be the first time the tournament features a 15-team field. The bottom three teams in the conference will not make the tournament.
Both the men’s and women’s tournaments in the spring will be played at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The women’s tournament is scheduled for March 5-9, with the men playing March 12-16.
It will be the 14th time Indianapolis has hosted the men’s tournament since its inception in 1998. The women’s tournament has been held in Indianapolis 27 times since inaugural event in 1982.
