Tim Garl, IU men’s basketball trainer for 44 years, will not be retained by new coach Darion DeVries. Monday was his last day with the university.

Garl is a defendant in a class action lawsuit brought by former IU men’s basketball players alleging that former team doctor Brad Bomba Dr. routinely sexually assaulted players under the guise of medical care.

Garl is accused of knowing about the abuse and, as Bomba Sr.’s supervisor, not stopping it.

Garl has argued in court documents that rectal examinations of college age men was the standard of care decades ago for comprehensive physicals.
