Purdue’s Zach Edey and Iowa’s Caitlin Clark were named the Big Ten Conference Athletes of the Year for the second straight year, the league announced Tuesday.

Edey is just the second repeat male winner. Ohio State wrestler Kyle Snyder won the award in 2017 and 2018.

Similarly, Clark is the just third women to win the honor back-to-back, joining Wisconsin runner Suzy Favor and Indiana swimmer Lilly King.

Nominees this year included Carson Tyler and Anna Peplowski from the IU swimming and diving program, and Eva Hudson from the Purdue’s volleyball program.

Edey and Clark join 16 other basketball student-athletes who won the title.

Edey’s 177 points in this year’s March Madness are the third-most in tournament history. He was selected with the ninth pick by the Memphis Grizzlies in Wednesday night’s NBA draft.

Clark, who led Iowa to a second consecutive Big Ten tournament title this season, was the first pick in the WNBA draft and now plays for the Indiana Fever.

Clark is the only Division I player in men’s and women’s basketball history to surpass 3,800 points, 1,000 assists and 950 rebounds in a career.
