Dejaune Anderson, 38, is charged with murder, neglect and obstruction of justice in the death of her 5-year-old son.

Indiana State Police detectives said a woman who had been at-large for almost two years was arrested Thursday.

Dejaune Anderson, mother of Cairo Jordan, was arrested in Arcadia, Calif., on the charges of murder, neglect of a dependent resulting in death, a Level 1 Felony, and obstruction of justice, a Level 6 Felony.

According to a press release Friday, ISP detective Matt Busick in Sellersburg received information this week from a concerned citizen, which led to physically locating Anderson in California. ISP worked with U.S. Marshals in California, who were able to identify and arrest Anderson as she attempted to board a public transit train.

Sellersburg detectives are traveling to California to continue the investigation, according to the release.

This investigation began in April 2022 when a man hunting for mushrooms located a suitcase in a heavily wooded area in rural Washington County. The suitcase contained the body of 5-year-old Cairo Jordan, who was unidentified at the time of the discovery.

Dawn Coleman, who is also involved in the case, was sentenced Nov. 2023 after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit murder.
