Body of 18-year-old Carson Hughes found in Versailles Lake

A Ripley County search and rescue team recovered the body of an 18-year-old Carson Hughes, from Osgood, from a lake in Versailles State Park Sunday.

Several agencies from nearby counties as well as local volunteers aided in the search for Hughes.

Conservation officers located his body with sonar at 6:30 p.m. in Versailles Lake. He was found six feet under water.

The Ripley County Coroner pronounced Hughes dead at the scene. The autopsy results as to an exact cause of death are pending.

Conservation officers received a call about Hughes’ disappearance around 1:30 p.m. Friday.

Hugues’ vehicle was found unlocked with the keys still in it near the boat ramp. His kayak was found nearby in the water.

Hughes was well-known in the area for his wildlife photography. He was a student at Jac-Cen-Del High School.
