Bloomington Mayor Kerry Thomson at City Hall Tuesday.

Bloomington Mayor Kerry Thomson says she’ll veto any resolution from city council not pertaining to city business. That includes two recent resolutions on the Indiana LEAP pipeline and Gaza ceasefire.

“If we could spend that time creatively focused on our opportunities and challenges in Bloomington, we will really advance our community,” Thomson said.

She says the resolutions take up a lot of time behind the scenes with dozens and sometimes hundreds of messages and meetings.

“We should be speaking out for what we believe in. And that should be addressed to our federal representatives to President Biden, this is international policy,” Thomson said.

Council member Dave Rollo says the Israel, Hamas war is a human catastrophe and must be addressed.

City council overrode Thomson’s veto of a resolution opposing the LEAP pipeline project with a two-thirds majority vote. Council has yet to add the cease-fire resolution veto to a future agenda.

The next meeting is scheduled for May 1.
