Former Monroe County Community School Corporation Superintendent Jeff Hauswald will serve as the new superintendent in Kentucky’s Boone County school district. His starting salary will be $265,000 and will increase in the following years. Hauswald begins July 1.

The Boone County School Board approved his contract May 22 after a four-month search. He is replacing Matt Turner, who retired at the end of the school year.

Hauswald is required to relocate within the district, and he will be compensated $4,000 for moving expenses.

Boone County Schools are located in the Cincinnati metropolitan area and serve more than 20,000 students, making it the third-largest school district in the state. The district includes 15 elementary schools, eight middle schools and six high schools.

The Monroe County School Board agreed to buy out the rest of Hauswald’s three-year contract in March.

Hauswald faced criticism last fall when he proposed aligning MCCSC’s four high schools onto a common schedule. More than 40 Bloomington North and Bloomington South students and parents and community members spoke out against the change in a nearly six-hour school board meeting.

He also released a controversial plan to consolidate Childs and Templeton elementary schools to balance socioeconomic status between schools. That merger will begin in the 2025-26 school year.
