The City of Bloomington will add four more hours of free street parking on Fridays and Saturdays this month. The city announced Wednesday downtown street parking will be free starting at 5 p.m. through July to help local businesses during the slower summer month.

“We hope to make it easier for people to come downtown, explore, and enjoy all that our vibrant community and local businesses have to offer,” Mayor Kerry Thomson said in a release.

Parking meters are typically enforced from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and cost $1 per hour.

Meet up with the Mayor

Thomson will be downtown from 5 to 7 p.m. today and July 27. She will join Deputy Mayor Gretchen Knapp at the Gallery Walk. It’s a reception held on the first Friday each month for residents to experience 13 art galleries in the Art Mile. Thomson and Knapp will be making surprise visits to some of the locations. A map of the exhibits is available on the Gallery Walk website.
