SR 135 and Main Street intersection in Nashville under construction

The improved traffic signal will stop vehicles and allow pedestrians to cross safely in any direction.

The intersection at State Road 135 and Main Street in Nashville is under construction to install an exclusive pedestrian crossing phase.

That’s when traffic signals stop all vehicles and let pedestrians cross in any direction at the same time. The project is meant to modernize and improve the existing intersection and reduce accidents.

A press release from the Indiana Department of Transportation says this will “eliminate potential conflicts between pedestrians and vehicles and enhance safety and mobility."

Ragle, Inc. began work in May. The intersection is expected to re-open later this month.

INDOT urges drivers in the area to slow down and be cautious while near work zones.
