Sheriff's office investigating death of 5-year-old in pool

The Monroe County Sheriff’s office is investigating the death of a 5-year-old boy Saturday on the southwest side of Bloomington.

Deputies responded to a call of a child found unresponsive in a pool around 7:15 p.m. in the 3000 block of South Leonard Springs Road, according to a press release.

When deputies arrived, “medical and fire personnel were actively performing CPR” on the child, who was transported to IU Health Bloomington Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Detectives interviewed witnesses at the scene. A preliminary investigation showed no evidence of a crime, but the investigation remains open.
