The Owen County Sheriff’s Office is leading an investigation into the death of a Bloomington man.

According to a statement on the Owen County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, Malik Sims’ body was discovered alongside a county road in rural Owen County Monday. A cause of death has not been determined, pending an autopsy.

The office is withholding specifics surrounding the death.

“In an effort protect the integrity of the case, all other details surrounding the investigation will not be shared with the public,” the statement said.

Family friend Nancy Hafer wrote in a Facebook post: "The hours and hours that he spent with me and my family are all good memories. Malik was one of the kindest, sweetest and most respectful young men I’ve ever known. I will miss him deeply."

The Indiana State Police and Bloomington Police Department are assisting in the investigation. Anyone with information related to the case are urged to call the Owen County Sheriff’s Office at 812-829-5757.
