Monroe County Election Supervisor Kylie Moreland said she's seeing a bump in voter registration after President Joe Biden dropped out of the presidential race Sunday.
“When we came in Monday morning, we came into about 120 new applications, and over half of those were all new registered voters,” she said in an interview Wednesday. “We are currently looking at approximately 250 since Monday that have sent in registrations.”
She expects a turnout comparable to the 2008 election, when former president Barack Obama was elected for his first term. She expects this will be the case if Biden-endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris makes it to Indiana’s ballot.

“This is making history, we could either be electing our very first woman president, or we could be reelecting a president who had a term off,” Moreland said.
She said the election board is working to recruit enough poll workers to keep pace with the anticipated crowds on the Nov. 5 election day.
