An 82-year-old man was killed Tuesday in a single-passenger plane crash he was piloting during takeoff in central Indiana.

According to a news release, the Indiana State Police said the 1975 Stewart Bowers Flybaby plane crashed in a field around 2 p.m. while taking off near Sulpher Springs. David Michael Province from Middletown, Indiana was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the only occupant.

No one on the ground was injured. The state police said they are assisting the Federal Aviation Administration in the investigation.
