The Project School in Bloomington, a charter school for kindergarten to eighth grade, was closed Wednesday because of a threatening message found in a school bathroom Tuesday.

A 12-year-old girl was referred to Monroe County Juvenile Probation for Intimidation, a Class-A misdemeanor, according to Captain Ryan Pedigo of the Bloomington Police Department.

In a message to parents on Tuesday, the school said a student discovered a written threat on a bathroom wall that read, “School Shooting, 10/2/2024.”

All students and staff were evacuated at 2:15 p.m. and BPD responded. After police swept the school, students and staff were brought back in and then dismissed.

School was cancelled Wednesday for grades three through eight, while kindergarten to second graders continued as scheduled with a field trip to a farm.

In a statement to WFIU/WTIU News, Pedigo said, “The investigating detective interviewed several students in the presence of their parents and at the conclusion of the investigation, a 12-year-old female was referred to Monroe County Juvenile Probation for the charge of Intimidation, a Class-A misdemeanor.”
