Events celebrating the spooky season are scheduled throughout October.
Kid-friendly events include pumpkin picking at Fowler Pumpkin Patch and the Bloomington pumpkin launch Oct. 26.
Trick-or-treat and trunk-or-treat hours
The Starlite Drive-in Theater will host trunk-or-treat followed by a double feature of both live-action Scooby-Doo films Oct. 17.
First United Church will host a food allergy sensitive trick-or-treat trail Oct. 19 as part of the Teal Pumpkin Project.
The downtown businesses’ trick-or-treat will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 25. There is also a trunk-or-treat at the Southeast YMCA on the same night from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
The Monroe County Fairgrounds trick-or-treat will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 26.
The Indiana University Greek Council's Treats with the Greeks is from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 28 on North David Baker Avenue.
Official Bloomington and Ellettsville Halloween trick-or-treat hours are 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. this year.
Haunted houses open near Monroe County
Bakers Junction Haunted Train is open Fridays and Saturdays this month from 7 to 10 p.m. Located on South Fairfax Road in Bloomington, tickets to board the haunted train are $20 for adults or $5 for those 15 or younger. A $2 military ID discount is available.
The Barn of Terror is open 8 p.m. to midnight Fridays and Saturdays this month. The barn is on North Old State Road 37 in Bloomington. Tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for children 10 or younger.
Hell on the Hill is a haunted trail open 7 to 11 p.m. Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and on Halloween. The Heltonville trail is on South Chapelhill Road and costs $10 for adults. Children 12 and younger pay $5.

Forbidden Hollows Haunted Farm features a scary haunted trail and a non-scary hayride on Fridays and Saturdays. Located on Anderson Road in Bedford, tickets are sold separately for the trail and hayride from 8 to 10 p.m. Each attraction is $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12. The hayride tickets are first-come, first-served.
Spring Mill State Park in Mitchell is turning the historic Pioneer Village into a haunted village for Oct. 19 only. Tickets can be purchased starting at 8 a.m. in the swimming pool parking lot for $5 regardless of age. The haunted village takes place from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.
Upcoming scary movie screenings
IU Cinema is showing horror movies, including the 2021 Candyman and The Blair Witch Project as part of its Friday Night Frights series.
The Buskirk-Chumley Theater is screening Halloween staples such as A Nightmare on Elm Street and Scream on Thursdays at 7 p.m. this month. The theater will also host an interactive screening of the Rocky Horror Picture Show.
In addition to Scooby-Doo, the Starlite Drive-in Theater will show horror films such as Insidious and John Carpenter’s Halloween.
Other Halloween-themed events
IU Archives has a scary story exhibit at the Wells Library. Visitors can view anecdotes collected by folklore students for free weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4:45 pm. until Dec. 20.
Oliver Winery hosts Halloween candy pairing events Saturdays and Sundays until Oct 20. Tickets are $25.
Queer bar the Back Door will host a horror-themed drag performance. Dark Mass is at 9 p.m. Oct. 19.
