Indiana Department of Natural Resources awards $280,000 in grants for tree projects

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources has awarded $238,000 in grants to 10 communities and organizations to support tree planting and maintenance, education, tree inventory, and management projects. 

The projects were selected by the DNR Community and Urban Forestry program and are funded through the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service, Urban & Community Forestry program. 

The town of Nashville was awarded $20,000. Indiana University’s Bloomington and Southeast campuses were each awarded $20,000 Natural Disaster Recovery grants to replant trees after severe weather. 

The city of New Albany was awarded the largest grant of $50,000 to treat ash trees for emerald ash borer, an invasive insect. It will also go toward replanting in places with trees killed by the insects.
