U.S. Supreme Court will not review Linton man’s 1995 murder sentence

The blocked agreement would shield members of the Sackler family from lawsuits.
The blocked agreement would shield members of the Sackler family from lawsuits.

The U.S. Supreme Court announced Monday it will not review the sentence of a man who was convicted for murder almost 25 years ago.

Jerry Russell, Sr., 62, is serving a life sentence without parole in the Pendleton Correctional Facilityfor his role in the abduction, rape and murder of 44-year-old Pamela Foddrill of Linton.

Court documents state Russell and three others held the mentally disabled woman in Russell’s attic for more than a week before killing her and dumping her body in Lawrenceville, Illinois.

On top of his life sentence for the murder, he is also serving 73 years for three additional felony charges from the case. This sentence has already been reduced once — Russell received life plus 120 years in the original November 1999 sentencing

Russel appealed the case to the U.S. Supreme Court after the Indiana Supreme Court decided in June he could not have his sentence reviewed. Russell argued that he cannot have a life sentence due to an intellectual disability, but the courts did not find evidence of this.

Russell is no longer able to appeal for a lesser sentence.
